According to the Graduate School of CUPL, Associate Professor Luo Yao of the College has been recognised for her module ‘Comparative Civil Law Seminar’ as one of CUPL’s Outstanding Postgraduate Modules for 2025.

The announcement was made on 11 June following the conclusion of the 2024–2025 academic year's postgraduate teaching supervision activities. The evaluation was part of an independent review conducted by the University’s 7th Postgraduate Education Supervision Group, which has recently completed its supervision, assessment, and guidance work on postgraduate education and teaching. Among the four teachers singled out for excellence during the past academic year, Luo Yao’s teaching received particularly high praise.

According to Supervisor Li Guoqiang’s report:

“Auditing Professor Luo’s class clearly reveals her profound academic foundation and broad expertise in civil law systems across numerous European countries—an essential asset when teaching comparative law. While explaining China’s judicial interpretation on spousal debt, Professor Luo guided students through the text of the law and dissected complex case studies to illustrate how various jurisdictions differ in defining and delimiting spousal liabilities. Her abundant use of case analysis helped students grasp the focal points of legal disputes and the core issues of legal adjustment, bringing otherwise abstract legal provisions vividly to life and grounding them in real-world context. She demonstrates masterful command of the material, can readily name over 20 students in class, often lectures without notes, and moves fluidly among the students. Her dynamic voice, paired with expressive gestures, powerfully captures students’ attention and enhances classroom interaction—showcasing the exceptional teaching skills of a seasoned educator.”
